Russian Drone Strike Disrupts Power Supply Near Novovolynsk

On the evening of March 18, a Russian drone strike targeted an energy facility near Novovolynsk, resulting in power outages and disruptions to water supply in the area.

The local authorities confirmed that the attack caused significant damage, leading to a fire at the facility. “There has been a strike on the energy facility in the Novovolynsk community. Power has gone out in parts of the area, and there are also interruptions to the water supply,” stated the local official.

Emergency services are currently on-site to assess the damage and begin repairs as soon as conditions allow. Generators are being deployed to mitigate the impact on water supply, and some heating stations will operate at minimal capacity.

Additionally, the city is establishing points of resilience, with locations to be communicated to residents later. The drone used in the attack was identified as a Shahed model, and over 30,000 subscribers in one district are currently without electricity.

This incident follows a broader pattern of aerial assaults by Russia, with a significant attack occurring earlier that night. Russian forces launched 147 drones from multiple directions, although Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted most of them. Nevertheless, 15 drones struck 12 locations, and debris from downed drones fell in three other areas.

Earlier that day, a drone also targeted a military recruitment center in Sumy, injuring two individuals—a woman and a 16-year-old boy—who were near the site at the time of the attack. Both victims were hospitalized for their injuries.

A Russian drone strike near Novovolynsk on March 18 caused significant power outages and water supply disruptions. The attack is part of ongoing aerial assaults in Ukraine, with local authorities responding to the damage and establishing emergency measures.
