Accompanied by footage of crowds waving Iranian flags featuring the ‘Lion and Sun’ symbol alongside Israeli flags, Netanyahu expressed Israel’s desire to help liberate Iran from what he termed the ‘yoke of tyranny.’
He emphasized that the future of Iran rests primarily in the hands of its citizens, stating, ‘Ultimately, it is you who must rise to put an end to this regime.’ Netanyahu expressed confidence that if Iranians ‘rise at the moment of truth,’ the day when Israel and Iran could become allies would not be far off.
As of now, the Iranian government has not publicly responded to Netanyahu’s remarks. This call for action follows recent military operations by Israel, which reportedly targeted Iranian territories. On February 28, explosions were reported in Tehran, attributed to Israeli airstrikes, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described as a ‘surprise attack.’
In conjunction with the strikes, the IDF issued a nationwide alert advising citizens to remain close to protected areas. The military characterized the alert as a precautionary measure to prepare the population for potential missile launches toward Israel.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the country initiated a ‘preventive military operation’ against Iran aimed at neutralizing potential threats from Tehran and preventing possible attacks on Israeli territory. A U.S. official confirmed America’s involvement in the operation against Iran, stating that airstrikes were ongoing and aimed at weakening Iran’s security infrastructure.
Subsequently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had commenced a military campaign against Iran ‘to eliminate threats from the current regime.’ He referred to the Iranian leadership as a ‘brutal group of people’ whose actions pose a direct danger to the U.S., its military, overseas bases, and allies worldwide.
