European Diplomats to Visit Ukraine Amid Commemoration of Bucha Tragedy

On March 27, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that several European diplomats, including EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell and foreign ministers from EU member states, will visit Ukraine on March 31. The visit coincides with the anniversary of the killings of civilians in Bucha by Russian forces.

Sybiha emphasized the significance of this date, stating that the meeting aims to honor the victims and reaffirm the commitment to hold those responsible accountable. He remarked, “We will also discuss EU support for Ukraine, increasing pressure on Russia, and efforts aimed at achieving peace and ensuring long-term stability in Europe.”

He expressed gratitude to Borrell and the EU ministers for accepting the invitation. In response, Borrell conveyed his anticipation for the gathering in Kyiv, underscoring the united stance of the EU in supporting Ukraine, especially during the commemoration of the atrocities in Bucha.

“We will arrive determined and united in our support for Ukraine, particularly as we mark the fourth anniversary of the horrific atrocities committed by Russia in Bucha. It is crucial that Russia is held accountable for its war crimes, as accountability is key to achieving a just and lasting peace,” Borrell stated.

Recently, the European Commission proposed that EU member states join the establishment of a special tribunal to address the crime of aggression against Ukraine. Sybiha welcomed this initiative, highlighting its importance ahead of the anniversary of the Bucha killings.

The upcoming visit of European diplomats to Ukraine marks a significant moment as it coincides with the anniversary of the Bucha tragedy. The discussions will focus on support for Ukraine and accountability for war crimes committed by Russia.
