Azerbaijan President Claims Russian Attacks Targeted Energy and Embassy

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has reported that Russian forces have carried out three separate attacks on Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure and its embassy in Ukraine.

Aliyev stated, “There were three attacks on Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure in Ukraine, as well as three attacks on the Azerbaijani embassy in Ukraine.” He mentioned that following the initial assault, Baku assumed it was an isolated incident and subsequently shared the coordinates of its diplomatic missions in Ukraine, including the consulate and cultural centers. However, the attacks continued.

He expressed, “Despite this, there were two more attacks. Therefore, this was a deliberate assault on Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission.” The president emphasized that Azerbaijan responded with specific statements, informed the ambassador, and submitted a diplomatic note.

Aliyev characterized Russia’s actions as a “hostile step.”

In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed surprise at Aliyev’s remarks. They stated, “During the planning of strikes, careful control of combat data is conducted to prevent harm to civilians, taking into account the locations of diplomatic missions,” according to TASS.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has accused Russia of multiple attacks on both the country's energy infrastructure and its embassy in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded, expressing surprise at the allegations and defending their military operations.
