Tonight, due to enemy shelling, the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant lost power to one of the two external power lines connecting the temporarily occupied ZANP with the unified energy system of Ukraine, reports UNN with reference to the Ministry of Energy.

The department emphasized that the external power supply of the station, which is necessary for its safe functioning, is already under threat for the third time since November. Currently, the station is powered by only one power line. If the plant is disconnected from the external power supply, another complete blackout will occur at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, which poses a threat to radiation safety.

“For the third time since November, one of the power transmission lines connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP with the Ukrainian power system has been disconnected due to enemy shelling. Ukrainian energy workers will start restoring the line as soon as the security situation allows. Only the return of control over the occupied Zaporizhia NPP to Ukraine can guarantee safe operation the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Every day of the plant’s occupation brings ZNPP closer to disaster,” the minister said of energy Herman Galushchenko.
