On November 29, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“I had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and thanked him for his leadership in helping Ukraine with air defense systems – the very effective Patriots and IRIS-T, which have already saved thousands of lives. I am grateful to the Chancellor for his willingness to continue to support Ukraine, in particular our defense against Russian aggression and our stability. We discussed what our bilateral steps and the steps of our partners can strengthen Ukraine,” Zelensky said in a telegram following the negotiations.

In addition, it is known that Scholz told Zelensky the details of his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“It is obvious that only the force of arms and the power of diplomacy together can force the perpetrator of the war to peace, and that peace is possible only through force,” the head of state said.

Olaf Scholz refuses to send the long-range German Taurus missile system to Ukraine, fearing the escalation of NATO’s confrontation with Russia.

In Germany, Scholz’s refusal to provide Kyiv with Taurus missiles is controversial even in his own tripartite coalition with the Greens and the liberal Free Democrats (FDP).
