According to her, there is already an understanding that the parties intend to sign the document as soon as possible.
“Yesterday, the Cabinet agreed the project of this Agreement, and the Ukrainian delegation has a mandate for signing. The presidential visit is also announced for tomorrow, that is, on Friday. Therefore, the agreement should be concluded in the near future. Interesting question: does this agreement then be ratified by Parliament? And it is interesting if all parliamentary parties will agree to support it.
What is still raising a question is Trump’s orientation that the agreement has to compensate for the costs that the US side has incurred by helping Ukraine. But all these amounts of help, all these finances were not provided from the outset on the conditions that Ukraine should compensate for it. So now come and say that this agreement should compensate for the costs that the US has incurred – is not very acceptable in terms of business ethics, ”Osmolovskaya said.
The expert is convinced that it is about the political game of the President of the United States, his internal rhetoric. It is aimed primarily at its own electorate within America.
“Trump uses this agreement as internal rhetoric for his electorate. Like, see how I care about America. That is, it is a calculation on the internal consumer, its essence – to show that Trump is very careful and careful about American wealth, unlike his predecessor. At the same time, there is a very important question: will this agreement contain security guarantees at all? It is not actually written out now. So now the agreement looks like this: you compensate for us what we have spent on you, and we don’t owe you to you, ”Osmolovskaya explains.
According to her, if you look purely from a pragmatic point of view – there are really calculations that there are certain types of strategic materials and minerals in Ukraine. Here the interest of the United States is clear. However, the question is how accurate these estimates are and how many “profits” will be when work will already begin. According to Yulia Osmolovskaya, this aspect is not clear enough, and the estimates of the amount of minerals in Ukraine are outdated.
“Finally, the third point is to play with the Russian side, including. There is already information that the Russian side allegedly invites Americans to count on those fossils that are located in the captured territories. It is generally a brutal violation of any international law. If the US agrees, the question of legal consequences arises. This de facto will consent with the annexation of our territories.
