A group of researchers has proposed a new way to search for dark matter: in the perturbations of space-time itself.
Dark matter is a general term for matter whose presence can be inferred from its gravitational interaction with ordinary matter. But this matter itself remains invisible.
According to accepted computer models, dark matter makes up about 27% of the mass and energy of the universe. And although we are talking about a terrible mass, scientists still have not been able to detect it directly.
Instead, they are forced to content themselves with observing its gravitational influence on other objects.
There are dozens of theories that explain the nature of dark matter. Many of them are just bold fantasies of theoretical physicists, which, however, does not necessarily indicate their futility. But it is very, very difficult to prove them.
A new study by a group of British physicists is somewhat different in nature, as scientists worked with real data from observations of cosmic phenomena. And came to the formation of an unusual theory about where “dark matter is hiding” from us.
