Details
Prosecutor Andreas Kruszewski said on Wednesday that the police had examined the evidence seized in connection with the arrest of Marius Borg Hoiby and had interviewed witnesses.
The Oslo police noted that a decision was made not to seek further detention of the crown princess’s son. “At this time, we no longer see that there is a risk of falsification of evidence,” the police said.
Hoiby’s lawyer, Eivind Bratlien, confirmed to the Norwegian news agency NTB that his client had been released from custody.
At the same time, the Oslo police announced that they had started an investigation into “another case related to sexual crimes.” However, the details of the new charges have not been disclosed.
In Norway, a preliminary indictment comes before a formal indictment and allows authorities to detain suspects while they investigate.

27-year-old Marius Borg Hoiby is the stepson of the heir to the Norwegian throne, Crown Prince Haakon, and Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship. He has no royal title and no official duties.
The man was arrested last week in Oslo on a preliminary charge of “having sexual intercourse with a person who was unconscious or otherwise unable to resist,” police said. The authorities did not specify when exactly the alleged rape took place.
Hoiby denies the allegations.
