Law enforcement officers detained him while he was receiving money in a capital restaurant. The man spread fakes about the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Kremlin narratives, calling for the disruption of mobilization.
Equipment and documents confirming his fraud were found at his place of residence.
Valery Tokar, the founder and chairman of the Garant party, became an extra. He previously tried to enter the Verkhovna Rada in 2012 as a self-nominated candidate, but was unsuccessful. He worked in a construction company and a private firm that won tenders related to the Ministry of Economy.
In 2021, he founded his own political party and public organization with the same name.
Tokar has been declared a suspect in attempted fraud under martial law, which is punishable by imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property. The court chose a preventive measure for him — detention with the right to deposit a bail of more than 6.7 million hryvnias.
