The EU continued sanctions against Yanukovych’s surroundings but the list has decreased to three people

The European Union continued sanctions for theft of public funds of Ukraine, but the list decreased from 18 to 3 persons. In particular, there is not even the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych on the list, Radio Liberty Jezvyak Correspondent Radio Liberty Jezvyak said on February 26.

“The ambassadors have just renewed sanctions for theft of the state funds of Ukraine. It was created more than 10 years ago for Yanukovych and 17 people from his immediate environment. Now there are only three people in the list – even Yanukovych is gone, ”the post reads.

Viktor Yanukovych and his son Alexander have been included in the EU sanction list since 2014 on the basis of a criminal case initiated by the Ukrainian authorities for theft of state funds in particularly large amounts. They have applied a freezing regime of assets in the EU to facilitate the repayment of funds by the Ukrainian state in case of confirmation of accusations. The EU updates the sanctions annually.

In June 2021, the European Union court decided to cancel the resolution to prolong the sanctions against the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his son Alexander from 2019.

On August 4, 2022, the EU Council on Wednesday approved the decision to introduce restrictive measures for Expature of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his son Alexander “In response to unreasonable and unprocessed military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine”.
