As of Friday, more than 30,000 people, mostly Syrians, had crossed from Lebanon to Syria in the past 72 hours.

As reported by Ukrinform, Reuters reported this with reference to the statement of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

UNHCR representative in Syria Gonzalo Vargas Llosa noted that about 80% of people who crossed the border were Syrians, and about 20% were Lebanese. About half were children and teenagers, with fewer men than women, he said.

“They are moving from a country at war to a country that has been experiencing a crisis conflict for 13 years,” Vargas Llosa said at a press conference in Geneva.

He informed that the UNHCR is working with the Syrian government to assist with the reception of the arrivals and that Syria has allowed Lebanese nationals to enter for an unlimited period, provided they have identity documents.

Lebanon is home to about 1.5 million Syrians who fled the Syrian civil war that began in 2011.
