Starodubtseva beat the ex-Russian and advanced to the 1/8 finals of the tournament in Beijing

Ukrainian tennis player Julia Starodubtseva (WTA 115) made it to the 1/8 finals of the WTA 1000 hard tournament in Beijing (China).

In the 3rd round, the Ukrainian beat the former Russian in two sets Elina Avanesyan (WTA 47), which currently represents Armenia.

This was the first meeting of the rivals.

For the first time, Yulia is competing in this category. On these courts, she started with qualification and, in addition to Avanesyan, she already managed to beat Carol Zhao, Chang Su-Jong, Laura Siegemund and Kateryna Sinyakova.

Starodubtseva will play against the winner of Peyton Stearns – Anna Kalinska in the 1/8 finals of the 1000 in China.

Starodubtseva takes the 93rd position in the WTA Live rating. After the tournament in Beijing, Julia will renew her personal record.

Starodubtseva is the only representative of Ukraine who continues to perform in singles in Beijing. Earlier, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, Lesya Tsurenko and Angelina Kalinina left the competition. Tsurenko, by the way, was traditionally present in the stands of the arena where Yulia played against Avanesyan.
