President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine expects the strongest security guarantees from the US, but they must be voted on in Congress to avoid a repeat of the scenario with the Budapest Memorandum.
Zelensky was asked whether he believes in future security guarantees from partners. He replied that now we are talking about real mechanisms, not “empty promises”. According to him, in the US, “so far, they have a positive attitude” to the idea of enshrining guarantees at the level of Congress.
The President also announced that guarantees from European countries, the “coalition of the determined”, have already been formed. However, the key question remains what actions the partners are ready to take in the event of repeated Russian aggression — Ukraine has not yet received a clear answer to this.
