In a comment to Reuters, a NATO representative said that the absence of foreign ministers of individual countries is not unusual.
“NATO holds numerous ministerial meetings each year, and while in most cases most allies are represented by ministers, it is not unusual for circumstances to prevent a minister from attending all or part of a NATO meeting,” he said.
At the same time, as Reuters writes, it is rare for top American diplomats to miss a NATO meeting. The last time this could happen was in 2017, when then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson initially planned to skip the April meeting, though it was later moved to accommodate his schedule.
Previously, Rubio repeatedly confirmed that the US administration devoted to NATO.
As reported, the appearance of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the negotiation process changed the approach the American side to interact with Ukraine regarding their proposed “peace plan”.
