Maguchih: “60% was confidence that one jump – and the end of qualification”

Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchikh She overcame the qualification at the 2025 World Cup in Tokyo. One jump was enough to do this – it took 1.92 m from the first attempt. After the qualification of Yaroslav spoke about reaching the Finals of the World Athletics Championship:

“One jump? There were such calculations, but before the World Championship I expected that I would jump 1.94–1.95 m. However, we came and decided to jump 1.92 m. 60% had confidence that this one jump and all, we would complete the qualification, was another 40% that we would jump further.

But they did not jump, lay with Morgan Lake and thought: we jump or not jump. In another group they wanted to lift the bar, but then they said that they did not jump. All, you can rest and prepare for the finals.

Did so many athletes expected 1.92 m? Yes, it’s expected because all the girls are ready. If you look at the beginning of the season and the season itself, the girls are in good shape to this World Cup, as we are in principle.

How did Tokyo arrival help in May? Helped feel the track. Because in four years you do not remember what was there, it was my first Olympiad, emotions – I was not yet such a mature, experienced athlete. Now more experienced, and of course, the arrival in May helped.

But qualification is a completely different feeling, because you know that it is the World Cup, you represent your country, you want to do it with dignity. But we do everything possible, and the finale will be a fierce fight. We will do everything that depends on us with Yulia. I am sure that the results will be higher than 2.00 meters. ”
