In Russia, a member of Istanbul talks with Ukraine headed the Writers’ Union

Assistant to Russian President Vladimir Medinsky, who was Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and in March 2022 participated in Istanbul talks with Ukraine, became the chairman of the Union of Writers of Russia. It happened at the congress of the organization on February 27, he was the only candidate, according to Russian news agencies.

Medinsky replaced the chairman of the Union of Writers of the Russian Federation editor of the magazine “Soviet Warrior” Nikolai Ivanov. He made the authority of the head of the Union before voting.

After that, Ivanov proposed to elect Vladimir Medinsky. Medinsky said in a speech at the congress that writers in Russia did not receive enough money from the state compared to theater or cinema.

Medinsky, who was born in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine, was known as a political PR. He wrote several patriotic bestsellers about Russian history, is the author of a school textbook on Russian history, was elected to the State Duma.
