According to the human rights center “Vyasna”, they were charged with 12 articles of the Belarusian Criminal Code.
Veremeychyk was detained on November 13, 2024 in Vietnam, and the very next day he was taken to Minsk. According to the Belarusian opposition, the operation was organized by the KGB, using the fight as a formal reason for detention.
Vasyl Veremeychyk graduated from the Military Academy of Belarus, served in the Belarusian army, took part in protests in 2020, then moved to Ukraine. After the start of the full-scale invasion, according to Nasha Niva, he joined Kalinovsky’s regiment, where he served as deputy commander of the Volat battalion. In 2024, he was elected to the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition and became a co-founder of the Association of Belarusian Volunteers.
Vasyl Grechikha, according to “Vyasna”, went to Poland to earn money in February 2022, and in May joined Kalinovsky’s regiment. “Belsat” writes that already in June of the same year, he left the regiment. The circumstances of his detention are unknown. At the beginning of May 2025, the Belarusian state TV channel showed footage of his detention (probably staged) and transportation by helicopter with a bag on his head, the man’s hands were tied. Judging by the surrounding terrain and bare trees, Grechikha was detained in winter or early spring.
