If Zelensky implements his plan, there is hope for the end of the war in 2025 – the US senator

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called on US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to strike deep into the territory of the Russian Federation with Western weapons. According to him, this is how you can force the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, to sit down at the negotiating table.

“President Zelenskyi declares that he wants to end this war through negotiations. The only way to bring the Russian Federation to the table is to hit them harder than we hit them today,” the senator told reporters after meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Graham added that “having permission to use long-range missiles to hit military targets is the main request of the Ukrainian president.”

“He believes that if these Russian bases are destroyed (missile and air force – ed.), from which attacks on his country are taking place, this will give him leverage to force Putin to the negotiating table. I believe in that too,” Graham said.

According to the lawmaker, “no amount of money will help unless Ukraine’s ability to more effectively fight against the Russian Federation is strengthened.”

“Therefore, President Biden, if you do not allow this now, Russia will eventually weaken Ukraine, the production of weapons in the Russian Federation is increasing, so in the long run, the lack of changes in military strategy will benefit Russia,” Graham emphasized.

If Ukraine “starts implementing its plan and is able to shoot deep into the Russian Federation, next year’s war may end with Ukraine’s victory,” the senator is convinced.

“So, President Biden, I know you want Ukraine to win. You should allow President Zelensky to implement this plan. He has a plan. He has specific military goals. If he can start implementing this plan, it gives us the best hope of ending this war in 2025,” the lawmaker said.

When asked by journalists whether Putin could resort to escalation in the event of shelling deep into the Russian Federation with Western weapons, the senator replied that “the Russian leader should not be allowed to influence the policy regarding this war.”

He emphasized that we are only talking about the shelling of exclusively military facilities in the Russian Federation, “we are not talking about an invasion of Moscow.”

Graham expressed hope that Zelenskyi’s visit to the United States “will end with the creation of a new strategy to end the war in Ukraine.”

“My hope is that he will leave this week or early next week not only with bipartisan support to continue fighting for Ukraine, but with a new strategy that will make ending the war on favorable terms more likely. If he leaves and there is no change in the military strategy to pressure Putin, I think that will be President Biden’s biggest mistake,” Graham said.

As reported in the Office of the President of Ukraine, during a meeting with US President Joe Biden, Zelensky presented him with Ukraine’s “victory plan” in the war with Russia. The President of Ukraine has been in the USA since September 22, he participated in events within the framework of the UN General Assembly and held meetings with calls to partners to continue supporting Ukraine.

On September 27, Zelenskyi is scheduled to hold talks with the former US president, Republican candidate Donald Trump.

On September 26, the US president announced the allocation of a total of $7.9 billion in US aid to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Security Promotion Initiative. Also, without details, the US president announced that the Pentagon is announcing the allocation of 2.4 billion US dollars for security assistance.
