The German government reached an understanding with official Ankara regarding the deportation of hundreds of Turkish citizens who were previously obliged to leave Germany.

As reported by Ukrinform, the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) reports this with reference to German government circles.

“After months of negotiations with the government of Ankara, the German government has begun deporting a large number of Turkish citizens to their homeland. According to FAZ, a total of 200 Turks will be brought to Turkey on several regular flights. Planes will depart from various German airports. This will be the beginning of decisive actions to deport Turks.” – the message says.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, Turkey allegedly offered to take up to 500 citizens from Germany every week. At the same time, Ankara, as before, refuses to allow deportation by chartered flights. However, it seems that it is ready to accept such flights in the future, if they are called “special flights”.

According to FAZ, a total of more than 13,500 Turks in Germany are obliged to leave the country. Deporting them is a difficult matter because Turkey “is of great geopolitical importance for Germany and is a NATO partner.” Nevertheless, the number of Turkish asylum seekers increased so much last year that Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz took the matter under personal control last October

“During the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which took place in November 2023, a breakthrough was apparently achieved. Since then, Turkey has shown a great willingness to cooperate,” the article says.

As Ukrinform reported, earlier in August, for the first time in the last three years, Germany repatriated its citizens to Afghanistan, who had committed various crimes on the territory of Germany.
