The paintings “La Palisade” and “Porcelain War” were among the contenders for the prize.
The official website of the film award published the lists in the nominations “International Feature Film”, “Feature Animated Film”, and “Feature Documentary Film”.
The first picture that entered the lists was “La Palisade” directed by Philip Sotnichenko. It will compete for the title of Best International Feature Film. The genre is post-Soviet noir.
The action of the Ukrainian psychological thriller unfolds in 1996, on the eve of the abolition of the death penalty in Ukraine. The plot focuses on the history of a forensic psychiatric examination conducted on a policeman accused of murder. The main characters – an investigator and a forensic psychiatrist – find themselves involved in a complex and controversial process that should decide the fate of the accused.
The next film to be nominated for “International Feature Film” was the Polish film “Under the Volcano”. It tells the story of a Ukrainian family at the beginning of a full-scale invasion. By the way, the main roles in the film were played by Ukrainian actors, in particular, Roman Lutskyi, Anastasia Karpenko, Sofia Berezovska and Fedir Pugachev. The film was directed by Damian Kotsur.
The co-produced film “Porcelain War”, created by Brendan Bellomo and Slava Leontev, tells the story of three porcelain animalistic artists from Ukraine. The main characters Slava Leontiev, his wife Anya Stasenko and Andriy Stefanov are in Kharkiv at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Despite constant shelling of the city, they continue to create. Masters continue to create porcelain products and decorate the houses destroyed by the Russians with them.
Director Oksana Karpovych will represent Ukraine with the film “Peaceful People”. The documentary picture consists of intercepted conversations of Russians with their families against the background of destroyed Ukrainian cities during the war. These calls give viewers an opportunity to look behind the curtain of propaganda and see what war looks like from the perspective of those who are directly waging it.
“After the Rain: Children Stolen by Putin Return Home” is a documentary film by Canadian director Sarah McCarthy, which tells the story of Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russian invaders. They were successfully repatriated and are now beginning the process of rebuilding after a terrible period.
By the way, the awarding ceremony of the winners will take place on the night of March 3 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA. American comedian Conan O’Brien will host the event next year.
It will be recalled that earlier the film “Porcelain War” was nominated for the US Film Critics Award. The tape received two nominations at once.
