The events of the tape unfold around a man named Louis, who, together with his son and their faithful dog, travels through the Moroccan desert in search of his missing daughter. Joining a group of ravers heading to another party in the heart of the Sahara, they plunge into a hellish journey through endless sands. Soon, the merciless desert will force them to rethink their own lives.
The main role in the film was played by the famous Spanish actor Sergi Lopez (“Dirty Charms”, “The Faun’s Labyrinth”, “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”), winner of prestigious film awards, including the Pazinetti Cup of the Venice International Film Festival, the European Film Academy and the French “César”.
This is the new work of multiple Cannes prize winner Oliver Lachet (“Mimosas”, “The Fire Will Come”). The film was produced by Pedro and Agustino Almodóvar, the creators of the Oscar-winning films “Talk to Her”, “All About My Mother”, as well as the Oscar-nominated films “Parallel Mothers”, “Pain and Glory” and “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”.
The world premiere of “Orphan” took place at the Cannes Film Festival, where the film won the Jury Prize. Meanwhile, 48 film critics polled by IndieWire voted it the best film of the festival.
Also in Cannes, a prize for the best soundtrack of the film was awarded to the famous French musician Kangding Ray, whose works were heard at the world’s largest electronic music festivals, including in Kyiv. Even the dogs Pip and Lupita, filmed in the film, received their awards – they were awarded the Grand Prix by the jury of the Palm Dog film award, which took place in parallel with the festival.
In Ukraine, the audience of the festival “Kyiv Criticism Week” was the first to see the film.
The film currently has a score of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb, while it has a 96% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. At the same time, on Metacritic, film experts rated it at 82 out of 100 points, which corresponds to the “universal recognition” characteristic.
