“A rare church manuscript from 1906, which has signs of cultural, historical or antiquarian value, was discovered by Transcarpathian customs officers at the checkpoint “Solotvyno – Sighet Marmatsiy”, – reads the message of the customs service on social networks.
The ancient book “Church collection”, dated 1906 of the publishing house, as indicated, was moved to the territory of Ukraine by a 35-year-old resident of Rakhiv Oblast in the door of his car “Audi Q5” without any permits through the “green corridor”.
“Church collection” was published in Uzhhorod during the Austro-Hungarian Empire (then the name of the city was Ungvar), in the printing house of Bartholomew Yeger.
According to the requirements of customs legislation, any editions produced more than 50 years ago, regardless of their value and the method of movement across the customs border of Ukraine, are subject to a written declaration during customs control, as well as, if available, a certificate for the right to move them through state border.
“Since the actions of a citizen of Ukraine have signs of a violation of customs rules, provided for in Part 3 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, a protocol has been drawn up regarding him. A rare church publication has been seized and handed over to specialists for an examination regarding its possible belonging to cultural, historical or antique value.” – noted the customs officials.
