The President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, reacted to the indignation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine after his words that after the end of the war, Russia may retain temporary control over some Ukrainian territories.

According to the Czech president, the hope that the war will end with an unequivocal success for Ukraine in a few weeks or months can be very dangerous for everyone. Therefore, he added, this issue should be considered in the light of what is realistically possible.

“I never doubted that we should support Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity, that this is the ultimate goal. We just have to be realistic about the time horizon and the price of achieving this goal,” Pavel said.

“Victory over Russia in Ukraine at the cost of destroying half of the Ukrainian population is probably not a victory,” the Czech president added.

We will remind, the day before, in an interview with The New York Times, Pavel repeated that Ukraine should come to terms with the probable “temporary” stay of some of its territories under the control of Russia after the end of the war.

After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published a statement rejecting the possibility of temporarily leaving part of the Ukrainian territory under occupation and similar “half-hearted decisions”.
