Why is it important: On July 17, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy removed Bakanova from the post of head of the SBU for “failure to fulfill his duties, which led to human casualties or other serious consequences”, which is provided for in Article 47 of the disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces.

As it became known in February 2023, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted an official check on its existing, but its results were classified.

To this day, it was not known whether Bakanov appeared in criminal cases related to his former work.
