At 13:30 the boat got into a sudden storm, overturned, and at 14:05 the GPS signal disappeared. In the area, at that moment, bad weather raised with the heavy wind, hail and zippers.

Rescue units-border service, naval fleet, police and dozens of vessels-arrived at the scene. Vietnam Navy sent three ships, two boats and 30 servicemen. Divers were conducted in difficult conditions: strong current, poor visibility and massive design of the sunken vessel complicated the work.
Among the rescued ones is a 10-year-old boy who was in good sensation, but suffered numerous injuries, and a 14-year-old teenager, who was taken from a partially flooded cabin through the window.
Most boat passengers were Khanoy residents, including more than 20 children. The youngest passenger was only 3 years, the oldest was 53.
In the evening, Viceremier Vietnam Chan Hong Ha arrived at the tragedy. He expressed their condolences to the families of the dead and instructed to attract all the forces to perform a rescue operation, to help the victims and to find out the causes of the catastrophe.

According to preliminary data, the boat was built in 2015, had a length of 24 meters, a capacity of 12 tons and was designed for 48 passengers. The latest technical inspection of the ship was held in January 2025.
