The Netherlands Air Force retired the F-16 fighter jets and switched to the F-35.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands.

“Now the F-35 is replacing the F-16. “This afternoon, the Ministry of Defense officially said goodbye to the legendary F-16 aircraft,” the message reads.

Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans called the farewell flight of the F-16 a “memorable moment”.

“Memorable moment: the last farewell flight of the iconic F-16. After 45 years of dedicated service and many missions, the aircraft got a new life in Ukraine and Romania. To everyone who flew or serviced the F-16: thank you!” he wrote on the Kh social network.

It is worth noting that decommissioned aircraft that are not written off and not sold will be transferred to other countries. In total, we are talking about 42 fighters, 18 of which are to be sent to the pilot training center in Romania and 24 to Ukraine. Earlier it was reported that 14 of the promised fighter jets have already been delivered to Romania, Ukraine also received a certain number of Dutch F-16s, but their exact number is not reported for security reasons.
