According to him, it is necessary to “ensure that children’s protection is observed,” and that he does not see any such risk with the “Pride, which is carried out in a closed space”.
Gulyash announced that the Hungarian government would discuss this issue and later propose the relevant legislation. It is unknown what it can anticipate.
Last week, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the organizers of the Pride “should not even worry” this year, as the event will be “a waste of money and time.”
For decades, the participants of the Budapest Pride have been held by Andrashi avenue – spacious, treated trees in the center of the Hungarian capital.
In 2021, Orban banned the “propaganda of homosexuality” among people under 18, despite the sharp criticism of human rights groups and the European Union.
The Venice Commission came to the conclusion that the Hungarian law prohibiting teaching in schools concerning homosexuality and transgenders violates international human rights standards.
The embassies of more than three dozen states, including Ukraine, published a joint statement in Hungary before holding the 29th Budapest Pride, where they supported the LGBT community and condemned its persecution in this country.
