During the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia lost about 1,180,870 of its soldiers, including 1,080 people – in the last day, such data as of the morning of December 7 were reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Also, the command of the Armed Forces cited data on Russia’s losses in equipment:

  • tanks – 11,401 (+3)
  • armored combat vehicles – 23,688
  • artillery systems – 34,907 (+33)
  • RSZV – 1,562 (+2)
  • air defense equipment – 1,253
  • planes – 431
  • helicopters – 347
  • UAVs of the operational-tactical level – 87,927 (+540)
  • cruise missiles – 4,054 (+30)
  • ships / boats – 28
  • submarines – 1
  • automotive equipment and tank trucks – 69,135 (+98)
  • special equipment – 4,015.

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last reported the number of people killed in September 2022, when 5,937 people died.

On December 2, British intelligence analyzed data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian losses in the war. An office at the British Ministry of Defense indicated that Russia is likely to have lost 382,000 soldiers killed and wounded since the beginning of 2025, with total losses during a full-scale invasion reaching 1.168 million.

“Russia’s average daily losses during November 2025 reached 1,033, according to the General Staff of Ukraine – more than 1,008 in October 2024, the third increase in a month in a row,” the summary says.

As of December 4, Russian journalists together with volunteers have identified the identities of at least 153,000 Russian soldiers who died in the war against Ukraine based on open data. At the same time, the researchers emphasize that the real number of losses is probably higher.

Kyiv also did not announce the losses for a long time, saying that the data would be revealed after the war. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview with NBC News at the beginning of 2025, stated that since February 2022, Ukraine has lost more than 46,000 soldiers killed and about 380,000 wounded in the war.
