According to police, in 2022 the suspect in one of the messengers became a participant in a group that promotes the cult of violence and cruelty, as well as racial, national and religious intolerance and discrimination. In addition, in 2024 he joined another group related to the Russian neo -Nazi organization, law enforcement officers say.
“During these groups, a personal dislike of Irina Farion had a personal hostility because of her active position on the protection of the Ukrainian language and culture. According to the attacker, she split the unity with her actions – because of this he had the intent for the murder of a public figure. The person was carefully preparing to commit a crime – he collected confidential information about the victim’s place of residence and work, monitored, and developed a detailed plan of murder and purchased a firearm, ”the investigation said.
The suspect is threatened with life imprisonment.
Farion was fired in Irina in Lviv on the evening of July 19. Late in the evening of the same day, doctors reported that her wounds were incompatible with her life. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the detention of the suspect in the murder on July 25.
On July 26, at a briefing in Lviv, the management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the SBU, the Office of the Prosecutor General told both the details of the suspect and the monitoring of Irina Farion. No camera locked up the moment of shot, but there is a video that shows how the suspect puts on gloves before the attempt. According to security officers, a sports sleeve was found on the site, but not found weapons.
Law enforcement officers emphasize that they have enough evidence that the detainee fired in the linguist. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted: “The investigation is inclined to believe that the shooter is only a performer.” The detainee’s father believes that his son had no motives to shoot in Farion.
