Colonel Ivan Vinnik, who commanded the 72nd brigade for more than two years, said goodbye to his unit on September 29.

“From the summer of 2022 to today, I had a long and difficult journey. But it was not difficult, because I did not overcome it myself. A loyal and motivated team was nearby. Thank you to each and every one of you for your patience, will and strength. Thank you for listening, hearing, talking, offering. Thank you for the joint struggle. Thank you for being there. I really appreciate it! It is an honor for me to be a part of the Black Zaporozhets, and the bond that was formed between us will remain forever,” said Colonel Vinnik’s address.

72nd separate mechanized brigade named after Black Zaporozhets (the name comes from a military unit of the times of the Ukrainian People’s Republic – ed.) has been defending Ukrainian positions near the town of Vugledar in the Donetsk region for more than two years. The unit is now continuing its defense of Ugledar, where the situation has worsened over the past month.

On September 20, the Operational Command “North” announced the appointment of Ivan Vinnik to a higher position.
