The British government has insisted that its position on supporting Ukraine in a full-scale war against Russia has not changed after the media published a dialogue between the head of the British Foreign Office, David Cameron, and Donald Trump, which indicated the opposite.

Details: The comments of British government officials were caused by the article published the day before by The Times newspaper, which recounted previously unknown details of the meeting between Trump and Cameron at the former US president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in April.

According to The Times citing a “high-ranking source”, the head of the British Foreign Ministry told Trump that the new aid will help Ukraine hold the front line and provide it with the “best possible conditions” for concluding an agreement between the parties.

“What are the best conditions under which you, as the president (of the United States. – Ed.), will be able to conclude an agreement in January (of 2025, i.e. after the probable victory in the elections. – Ed.)? This is when both sides hold their positions and pay for that’s the price,” The Times quoted Cameron as saying.

These words differ significantly from the official position of Britain, which publicly declares its support for Ukraine until its victory over Russia.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, when asked to comment on The Times’ story, said he had not seen the article in question, but stressed that London’s position had not changed and that “Putin must be defeated.”

“An investment in Ukraine’s security is an investment in our security. Our NATO allies are already worried about the prospect that if Putin succeeds, they will be next – with all the consequences that would bring,” added Sunak.

It should be noted that at the beginning of May, the head of the British Foreign Ministry, David Cameron, during his visit to Kyiv, stated that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons provided by London to strike targets on the territory of Russia.
