The prosecution asked for 3.5 years in prison for the Russian political prisoner Oleksiy Horinov in a new case – about justifying terrorism. The reason for the case was conversations with cellmates about Ukraine, Mediazona reports.

The former Moscow municipal deputy is already behind bars. The prosecutor’s office demands that Horinov serve another five years after the new sentence takes effect.

In July 2022, Oleksiy Horinov was sentenced to seven years in prison on the charge of spreading so-called “fakes” about the Russian army. The case is related to the politician’s speech at the meeting of the municipal council, during which a moment of silence was announced for the victims of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine at the suggestion of Horinov.

Horinov also noted that all efforts of civil society in Russia should be aimed at stopping the war. The Human Rights Center “Memorial” recognized Horinov as a political prisoner.

The lawyers of the politician, who has a severe chronic lung disease, claimed that their client’s health had deteriorated significantly in the colony. Dozens of current and former deputies from the regions of Russia, as well as representatives of the medical community, appealed to the authorities to obtain the necessary treatment for Horinov.
