Reports appearing in the media about China’s assistance to Russia undermine China’s efforts to show itself as a supposedly “neutral mediator in the war.”

Details: Western officials continue to emphasize the efforts of the People’s Republic of China to support Russian military actions in Ukraine.
The Times reported that Western officials discovered that a Chinese company was sending a number of military drones to Russia for testing and possible use by Russian forces in Ukraine.
A Western official said a Chinese company had signed an agreement with Russia in 2023 and that there was “clear evidence that Chinese companies are supplying Russia with lethal weapons for use in Ukraine.”
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that approximately 70 percent of Russian imports of machine tools and 90 percent of microelectronics imports come from the PRC and Hong Kong, and that Russia uses these imports to produce missiles, armored vehicles and ammunition.
Blinken added that the PRC’s actions “are at odds with reality” because the PRC says it wants peace in Ukraine, but allows Chinese companies to take actions that help Russia’s military efforts.
Literally ISW: “The PRC has repeatedly tried to portray itself as a neutral mediator in the war in Ukraine, and persistent reports of PRC aid to the Russian military effort undermine that claim.”

- Ukrainian mass media reported on September 28 that Russian resistance movements, coordinating their actions with the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence of Ukraine, eliminated the head of the 924th State Center for Unmanned Aviation of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Colonel Oleksiy Kolomeitsev.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia strongly condemned the alleged “political assassination” of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israel on September 28.
- Russian troops made little progress in the Kursk region.
- The occupiers also advanced near Kupyansk, Selidovoy and Vugledar.
- Russia is reportedly implementing legislation that would allow Russian authorities to exonerate those accused of crimes if the accused signs a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry.
