Kostenko commented on the change of commander of the “Kharkiv” troop group

“There really was a serious situation there (in the Kharkiv direction – ed.), because there had been no hostilities there before. Now they have recovered there, let’s say on a large scale. He was appointed there in order to, let’s say, stop this situation,” he said on the air of the Svoboda program. Live.

Kostenko assumes that with the necessary amount of forces and resources, Drapaty will be able to cope with the situation in Kharkiv Oblast.

“And I even know several serious commanders who worked with him at the Kherson military training center, including in management and combat fire support, who were also sent to him as a team from combat directions. Therefore, I believe that this is the correct assignment. I think that General Dropatiy, with the amount of forces and resources normally provided to him, will cope with this situation,” explains Kostenko.

It became known earlier that Mykhailo Drapatoy, who previously held the post of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was appointed commander of the operational-tactical grouping of the “Kharkiv” troops. This was reported by with reference to its own sources in the Defense Forces.

In an evening video message, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed this appointment, noting that Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapaty for the Kharkiv direction “is responsible directly on the spot, he is provided with the necessary means of attack, the necessary forces.”

On the morning of May 10, Russian forces began offensive operations in the Kharkiv region along the Ukrainian-Russian border. They managed to capture several villages, and now there are ongoing battles for Vovchansk, a city with a pre-war population of almost 17,000 people.
