Details: Analysts say that the first deputy chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of Russia on Information Policy Anton Gorelkin warned on July 18 that the popular WhatsApp messenger should be prepared for leaving the Russian market, because it is “very likely” that it will fall under restrictive measures.
Gorelkkin added that the Kremlin -controlled platform for the exchange of MAX will be a replacement for users of WhatsApp.
Member of the Committee of the State Duma of Russia on Information Policy Anton Nenkin expressed the opinion that the presence of WhatsApp in the digital space of Russia was a violation of national security, and suggested that Russia consider Telegram as an alternative, although he acknowledged that MAX is the main option for replacing WhatsApp.
The Russian edition of Meduza reported that whatsApp is the most popular messenger in Russia, with about 84 million daily users, and that two sources close to the Russian Presidential Administration said the Russian authorities would almost certainly ban WhatsApp.
Another source close to the Presidential Administration reported Meduza that the Russian authorities would probably tolerate Telegram because it contains many channels related to the Kremlin.
The report adds that whatsApp belongs to Meta, which the Kremlin recognized as an extremist organization.
And they remind that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin has recently instructed the government to impose additional restrictions on the use of Internet resources from “unfriendly countries”.
Literally From the report: “ISW previously stated that the Kremlin planned to appoint Max a national messenger and that the Kremlin may try to ban Telegram and other social networks related to the Western world, in the medium- and long term, if the introduction of a new national messenger is successful.
The Kremlin is likely to continue to take more and more repressive measures aimed at isolation and censorship of Russian citizens and promoting the Kremlin’s military efforts. ”
