NAEK “Energoatom” confirmed media information about the “detention of a company official while receiving illegal benefits.”

“Thanks to the coordinated work of law enforcement officers and the active participation of Energoatom representatives, one of the company’s employees was detained while receiving an illegal benefit,” the company said in a statement on September 28.

“Energoatom” noted that “the detainee contributed to the resolution of the issue at another company thanks to his connections and acted as an intermediary between the contractor and another company.”

Energoatom emphasized that “their priority is to ensure compliance with the norms of the current legislation.”

“The company has a policy of zero tolerance for corruption. And this applies not only to the internal issues of the company, but also to the behavior of employees outside the scope of official activities,” the NAEC stressed.

Subsequently, the press service of the SBU confirmed that the director of the control and audit work of this enterprise was exposed for corruption. According to the case file, “the company official demanded a “kickback” from the suppliers of goods and services for the state-owned enterprise.”

“The criminal proceedings documented that in exchange for a ‘tribute’ of 15 percent of the contract amount, he promised suppliers an accelerated settlement for the relevant contract. The perpetrator was caught red-handed when he received UAH 100,000 from a supplier of fuel and lubricants that supplies a state-owned enterprise that mines uranium,” the SBU says.

So far, SBU investigators have informed the detainee of the suspicion under part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of influence).

It is known that the investigation was carried out by employees of the Main Directorate of the SBU in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

So far, the person involved in the case has not publicly commented on the accusations.

According to media reports, it is about Oleksandr Skopych, the top manager of Energoatom. It is noted that on September 28, the Security Service of Ukraine detained him while handing him a bribe of 100,000 hryvnias near the office of the company from which the official demanded it for the supply of fuel.
