According to the new legislation, military personnel who voluntarily left their place of service for the first time have one month – until January 1, 2025 – to return without incurring criminal liability.

Direct speech: “If you went to the SZCH as a military serviceman, you have the opportunity to return to the military unit from the end of November to January 1 of the new year, that is, in a month.
Once you return to your duty station, the commander has 72 hours to renew your contract or reinstate you.
Cash, food and material payments, as well as benefits and social guarantees, are being renewed.”
Details: Sapyan reminded that when a soldier returns to his military unit, he must inform the pre-trial investigation body or the military law enforcement service.
Prehistory:
- On November 28, 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law on the voluntary return to service of those who voluntarily left a military unit or deserted for the first time.
- On November 21, the Verkhovna Rada generally supported the project of the law on voluntary return to service for the first SZH or desertion.
- On August 20, the parliament passed a law removing criminal liability for the first voluntary leaving of a military unit or desertion, if the soldier himself returned and the commander allows him to continue his service.
