British intelligence believes that Russia will continue to force conscripts to sign contracts after the end of their service to send them to war against Ukraine.

Details: The agency reminded that conscription in Russia begins on October 1 and that no conscripts have been sent to fight in Ukraine to date. In particular, in February 2022, the leadership of Russia announced that conscripts would not be sent to the front.
“However, conscripts were deployed during the Kursk operation in August 2024. In response, some parents expressed concern that their sons had been sent to fight after serving less than four months,” the review said.
It is noted that by law conscripts can serve in a combat zone if they have served four months and received training in the relevant specialty.
“The reaction of conscripts’ families to their deployment to the defense of mainland Russia probably increases the Russian leadership’s sensitivity to sending conscripts to Ukraine itself.
However, Russia will likely continue to force conscripts to sign post-service contracts to ensure a steady supply of personnel for the war,” the review said.
As reported in one of the previous reviews, due to significant losses on the battlefield and the insufficient pace of their compensation in Russia, they were forced to significantly increase payments to military personnel in order to attract more people to the service.
We will remind:
- Earlier, British Ministry of Defense intelligence claimed that Russia’s average daily losses in killed and wounded during May and June 2024 increased to the maximum during its war of aggression against Ukraine.
