According to the British government, this is the first time Britain has used its new ship specification powers to directly affect LNG carriers.
Today, the following vessels are subject to restrictions:
- Pioneer
- Asya Energy
- Nova Energy
- North Sky
- Scf la Perouse
Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC, which is the operator of Pioneer and Asya Energy, and White Fox Ship Management is the operator of North Sky.
Earlier this year, Great Britain imposed sanctions against Arctic LNG 2 along with allies in the US and the EU. Since then, the project was forced to reduce production.
The British government adds that LNG is an important source of funding for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s illegal war against Ukraine. Russia plans to increase its LNG revenues, aiming to increase its share of the global LNG market from 8% to 20%.
In total, Great Britain imposed sanctions against 15 vessels and companies involved in the Russian LNG sector.
