Details

In the capital, four recidivist gangsters, who previously served sentences for various crimes, including robbery, drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons, were arrested. They were led by a citizen of the Russian Federation, who had already served a 5-year prison term in a Ukrainian prison for participating in the “Vostok” terrorist group, which fought against ATO forces. After his release, he created a criminal group and continued his criminal activities.

According to the investigation, gang members followed successful entrepreneurs and freelancers, and then demanded money from them under fictitious pretexts.

In case of non-payment of “tribute”, the racketeers kidnapped the victims and brutally tortured them, using various tortures and threats of death.

In particular, the perpetrators kidnapped a Turkish IT specialist who had a residence permit in Ukraine. The perpetrators took him to a garage, where a torture chamber had been set up in advance. There, the racketeers began demanding $100,000 from the foreigner. The victim had to transfer the entire amount from his crypto wallet to the gang leader’s electronic account.

SBU officers arrested four criminals “red handed”. Firearms, explosives and mobile phones with evidence of criminal activities were seized from them at the scene.

So far, those involved have been notified of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: extortion, illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping, and torture.

The actions of the leader of the gang and another of its members were additionally qualified as a robbery committed by an organized group under martial law.

The perpetrators are being held without bail. They face 12 to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
