The 17th European Football Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14. Since 1960, the tournament has been won by 11 national teams, three of which no longer exist.

The continental championship is held every four years. Initially, the tournament was called the Cup of European Nations, and in 1968 the name was changed to the European Football Championship and the tournament received official status.

Spain became European champions (1964, 2008, 2012), Italy (1968, 2020), France (1894, 2000), Germany (1972, 1980), USSR (1960), Germany (1996), Czechoslovakia (1976), the Netherlands (1988), Denmark (1992), Greece (2004), Portugal (2016).

Now there are no more national teams of the USSR and Czechoslovakia, after the collapse of these countries. And the German national team, after unification with the GDR, already performs as Germany.
