“Yulia defeated the experienced German Laura Siegemund in a difficult match”, — write: sport.ua
“This is a tough match, both mentally and physically. I was down 0-3 from the start of the match and couldn’t find any rhythm. Then, when she stopped playing as perfectly as she did in the beginning, I was able to more or less understand and master her rhythm – those slashes of hers, that forehand that you can’t tell if you’re going to land a chop or a topspin , because she has such a strange forehand grip that you can’t tell what the shot is going to be. The match was difficult, you had to stay very focused, as, in principle, always (laughs).
This is my first victory in the thousand and I am very glad that I beat such a good opponent. I was very happy with my win over Diane Parry in Monastir at the WTA 250 a week and a half ago, but it’s still the WTA 1000 and not that I didn’t expect it, but again, it was a very tough match and I’m very happy to win.
Does qualifying help me enter the tournament? To be honest, I would like to play easier, without qualifications (laughs). And yes, I can’t answer this question yet, since I have practically not played tournaments without qualification, so it is difficult to compare,” said Starodubtseva.
In the next round, Yulia will compete against the Czech Kateryna Siniakova (#37 WTA).
