Ukraine received 100 million dollars from South Korea, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

“This is the first budget aid from our Korean partners, which will be aimed at supporting the social sphere,” he wrote in a telegram on the morning of November 29.

According to Shmyhal, an agreement was signed between the governments of the countries this year, which will allow attracting up to 2.1 billion dollars.

In October, the South Korean government announced a possible review of support for Kyiv, in particular regarding the provision of lethal weapons and the deployment of personnel, depending on the situation in Ukraine. The statement was made against the background of North Korean troops joining Russian forces fighting against Ukraine.

Also last month, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during a telephone conversation with his South Korean counterpart, announced Kyiv’s plans to send a delegation to South Korea.

“We agreed to strengthen the exchange of intelligence and expertise, to intensify contacts at all levels, including the highest, in order to develop an action strategy and a list of countermeasures in response to escalation, as well as to involve mutual partners in cooperation. Within the framework of this agreement, Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will soon exchange delegations to coordinate actions,” he said.

In addition, in October, Zelensky announced that Ukraine plans to send a detailed request to South Korea “in the near future”, which will include the necessary weapons for Ukrainian defenders.
