Lithuania will finance the production of Ukrainian long-range drones. The corresponding memorandum was signed today by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umyerov and the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Laurinas Kaschyunas in Vilnius, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Department reported on Facebook.

“The memorandum of understanding on the creation of a mechanism to support the security and defense forces of Ukraine through contributions to the Ukrainian defense industry opens up new opportunities for Lithuanian investments in our defense industry and contributes to the expansion of the strategic partnership between our countries,” the post reads.

Umerov noted that this is a long-term agreement, within the framework of which the first tranche of 10 million euros has already been agreed. Lithuania directs these funds to the production of Ukrainian long-range weapons, in particular the “Palyanytsia” project.

It is planned to look for opportunities to finance not only “Palyanytsia”, but also other weapons of Ukrainian production, localization of Ukrainian production in Lithuania, Kaschyunas said at the press conference.

On August 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi for the first time showed the newest Ukrainian long-range missile “Palyanytsia”, the testing of which he announced the day before.

On November 19, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that next year Ukraine will produce at least 30,000 long-range drones at Ukrainian technological facilities. Also, according to him, the task has been set to make no less than 3 thousand cruise missiles and drone missiles.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine has been trying to increase its own production of weapons, partly producing them together with partners.
