It is the lack of manpower, in particular soldiers and medics, that today is a critical threat to the survival of the state, the publication says.
Ukraine is experimenting and innovating to save as many lives as possible. It became the first country to conduct combat medical evacuation using drones. Although casualties are a well-guarded secret, by all accounts Ukraine is losing far fewer people than Russia. Not least because Ukrainian military medicine works better.
Russian pro-war Telegram channels abound with reports of wounded soldiers who are simply left to die on the battlefield. The figures speak for themselves: for every dead person in Ukraine there are five wounded. On the Russian side, this ratio was estimated as 2-1, indicating a huge number of deaths from combat wounds that could have been prevented. Western armies have not had a similar ratio of wounded to killed for more than a century.
Ukrainian combat medics and military doctors are better than Russian ones, but there is an acute shortage of them. The speed and quality of front-line medical care is critical not only to saving lives, but also to the morale of soldiers. Competent care is a motivational advantage that strengthens soldiers’ resolve by giving them confidence that they are in good hands and will recover if they are wounded. The lack of quality medical care, which is easily publicized in the age of social media, has the opposite effect, demoralizing soldiers and giving the enemy a huge psychological weapon.
According to Foreign Policy, the medical support of Ukrainian units on the front line is now better and more stable than in the past. Well-equipped and fortified hospitals far from the front save many lives. But there is still a shortage of doctors.
“Ukraine’s lack of medical mobilization parallels the much greater failure of its military mobilization. (…) If Ukraine is to survive, let alone win, it needs many more soldiers and doctors and nurses and medics to keep them fighting.” , the publication says.
The war in Ukraine: the latest newsAs UNIAN wrote, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces visited the Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv directions. According to the results of the trip, he decided to strengthen units in the hottest areas of Donetsk region
We also told that mass desertion deprives the Ukrainian army of the manpower it desperately needs and undermines its combat capabilities. The number of deserters is measured in tens of thousands. According to the military, entire units are abandoning their posts, leaving defensive lines vulnerable and accelerating territorial losses.
