President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with parliamentarians and diplomats from Latin American countries. Representatives of Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica arrived in Kyiv to participate in the Parliamentary Conference “Ukraine – States of Latin America and the Caribbean : cooperation for the future”.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about Russian aggression against Ukraine, daily missile and drone attacks by Russia, attacks on the energy system, the situation at the front, the abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children to the territory of the Russian Federation.
Separately, the President informed about the Peace Formula, which fully complies with the UN Charter, and the results of the first Peace Summit. Latin America was represented at the level of leaders. The head of state thanked, in particular, Argentina, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Chile for their participation in the Summit.
“Unfortunately, Russia rejects both the Peace Formula and all other proposals, any proposals that are based on the UN Charter. They reject and will reject because they do not respect the UN Charter, do not recognize it. Recognized only by word of mouth. And Putin believes in war, believes in his missiles. But we need to force Russia into an honest peace,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the prospects of cooperation in the defense of Ukraine and relations with the countries of Latin America.
The President called to join the peace process, to cooperate for the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children, in matters of food security, and to help Ukraine recover after the shelling.
“This issue is not about weapons, it is another issue. It’s a question of how people have something to eat, cook something for their children, cook something, have electricity so they don’t freeze at night. Especially now, in winter,” he emphasized.
In addition, Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined how Ukraine and Latin America can deepen cooperation, particularly in economic, technological and educational areas.
The head of state called the visit of a delegation from Latin America to Kyiv also important for countering Russian disinformation. He urged to share what you saw, your impressions and to create platforms that would contribute to the dissemination of reliable data about the struggle of Ukrainians against Russian aggression.
“We want state borders to be respected. Certainly. That this should be the rule for Ukraine and for other nations of the world. So that each nation can independently choose its future – without coercion. Without coercion by war, or political coercion, or economic coercion by any other country. And so that no one in the world can arrange deportations, so that no one can steal the children of another nation, as Russia is doing against Ukrainians,” the President said.
Representatives of the delegation assured Ukraine of further support from Latin America: “We are a group of your friends. We have come to tell you that Latin America is a friendly land for you. Our people, our people are with you.”
