On Wednesday, November 12, Svitlana Grynchuk resigned as head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. She announced this on her Facebook page.

– I wrote a resignation letter. This position was never my main goal. I am grateful to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and people’s elected representatives for the opportunity to work for the benefit of the state, which I have done over the past 10 years in various positions at the state service, starting with the chief specialist, she commented.

Grynchuk added that “there were no violations of legal norms” in the framework of her professional activity. She urged to refrain from any assumptions related to her personal relationship and assured that later everything will fall into place.

  • Earlier, NABU, together with SAP, announced that they had uncovered a large corruption scheme in the state-owned company Energoatom. According to the investigation, the company was actually controlled by an organized group, the members of which demanded a kickback of 10-15% of the contract amount from the counterparties. The Anti-Corruption Bureau reported that these funds were laundered through an office in the center of Kyiv that belonged to the family of former People’s Deputy Andrii Derkach.
  • President Zelenskyy emphasized that cleaning Energoatom of corruption is a priority task of the state.
  • On November 11, the company’s supervisory board held a special meeting in connection with the scandal in the energy sector. After that, Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko announced the government’s decision to prematurely terminate the powers of the members of the Supervisory Board of NAEK “Energoatom”.
  • On November 12, Zelenskyi said that the ministers of justice and energy should be fired as a result of the tapes released by NABU.
