The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed misunderstanding about Switzerland’s decision to support the initiative of China and Brazil to end the war, noting that it contradicts the interests of Ukraine and complicates the path to peace.
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We do not see the logic in such a decision, especially given the fact that together with Switzerland we held the First Global Peace Summit on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock, which was attended by representatives of a hundred countries and international organizations,” the department said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Switzerland takes an active part in thematic conferences regarding the key points of the Peace Plan of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the purpose of which is to develop a joint peace strategy.
Ukraine insists that any ideas and proposals for restoring peace should be based on two main principles:
1. Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.
2. All initiatives must be based on the UN Charter, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of internationally recognized borders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Zelenskyi’s Peace Formula is the only way to a comprehensive, just and long-term peace, and there is no need to create additional platforms for discussing this issue.
Any initiatives that do not refer to the UN Charter and do not guarantee the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine are considered unacceptable. “Such ‘peaceful initiatives’ create only the illusion of dialogue, while the aggressor continues his criminal actions,” the ministry emphasized.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Switzerland and other countries that support international law and the UN Charter not to participate in initiatives that could complicate the process of achieving a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine.
““Initiatives that do not recognize the fact of Russia’s unprovoked aggression and put the victim and the aggressor on the same level, offering compromises at the expense of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territories, cannot be supported,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
