Ukraine has become a world leader in the production of drones, with more than 500 companies that produce about 4 million drones of all types a year — from cheap FPVs to long-range strategic strike systems.
According to Bloomberg, the pace of production of Ukrainian UAVs exceeds the combined indicators of most NATO countries.
According to RAND Corporation analyst Michael Bonert, Ukraine now produces more drones than all NATO countries combined. For comparison, the US produces about 100,000 drones per year.
Production includes both massive FPV drones and the new Flamingo, Ruta and Neptune rockets. President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that up to 800 interceptor drones per day are planned to be released by the end of November.
After three years of full-scale war, the export of drones has become a strategic priority for the Ukrainian industry. This should ensure the stable funding necessary for the development of new technologies. Ukrainian developers are actively entering the EU and North American markets, looking for partners for joint projects and the creation of production facilities outside the country.
However, Ukrainian engineers are concerned that Europe is not learning fast enough from the experience of Kyiv: one of the developers said that his drones in Ukraine have gone through three generations, while in Finland during this time they were only setting up a production line.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Great Britain plan to start joint production of interceptor drones to destroy Iranian “Shaheeds”.
In the near future, the Netherlands will finance a new aid package worth 90 million euros for the production of reconnaissance and attack drones in Ukraine.
